October 16-18 at the BEAUTIFUL Widen Ranch near Dripping Springs!

Camping is the best way to experience the beauty of the Hill Country.  The air is cooler, the scenery is stunning, and you can spend all night gazing at the endless starry sky. Pitch a tent amongst the towering oak and cedar trees, relax and enjoy the views of the majestic rolling hills.

At Widén Ranch, Scouts will test their emergency preparedness skills on a hike. They will be exposed to five realistic emergency situations, with all the chaos, uncertainty, and difficulties that usually come with such situations. Just what is the problem? How do the Scout first responders stay safe? How do Scouts improvise the equipment needed from what is on hand?

On Sunday, bus riders will stop at Double Dave’s in Bastrop for lunch.

Widén Ranch

Directions to Widén Ranch, near Dripping Springs, Texas, 17 miles west southwest of Austin

Widén Ranch is located on a paved road at approximately 2300 - 2500 Creek Road, near Drippings Springs, Texas.  There is no street number marker, and not all internet maps and navigation systems plot 2300 Creek Road accurately, so please check your navigation systems against the directions and map below. 

From Houston, take Interstate 10 West toward San Antonio.  Just past Columbus, take Highway 71 toward Austin.  Continue on Highway 71 to Austin where it will join Highway 290, and continue in the direction of Dripping Springs, Johnson City and Fredericksburg.

Where Highway 290 and Highway 71 split at Oak Hill, stay left and continue to follow Highway 290 toward Dripping Springs and Johnson City. 

Widén Ranch is on Creek Road (also known as Hays County Road 190), 3 miles WSW of Dripping Springs, Texas. Look for stop light at major intersection of Highway 290 and Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs.  Continue west 3/10 of a mile on Highway 290 to left turn at uncontrolled intersection with Creek Road. (Pioneer Bank is at the intersection).  Check your odometer.

Widén Ranch is 3 miles from this point on Creek Road (County Road 190).  Proceed on Creek Road to a stop sign, and turn left to continue on Creek Road. 

After about 2.5 miles, watch for a blue sign for “Camp Lucy” with an arrow to the right.  Follow the fork in the road to the right as indicated by the “Camp Lucy” sign, which is the continuation of Creek Road. 

Widén Ranch begins approximately 1/2 mile past this creek crossing.  There are two small houses on the Ranch.  The first house is on the right side, a white wooden house with red trim and an open porch across the front near Creek Road.   Another 6/10 mile down Creek Road you will see on the right a stone wall with a red wooden gate in the middle with a copse of live oak trees and a small rock house behind it.  Please park in the pasture immediately to the left of this stone wall near the fence along Creek Road.
