Summer Camps for T55!

(Philmont has its own site)

Note to New Scouts and New Scout Parents: New Scouts are eligible for Merit Badge Camps (1-4)

Mid-Adventure noted in Black (Some camps call their programs "High Adventure" even though we at Troop 55 designate these as Mid-Adventure.)

  1. Camp Daniel Boone  (Canton, NC): June 9-16; Merit Badge Camp (all scouts eligible) - Approx. $1,200 total cost. (40 spots available total) Please sign up by March 15. Leader - Eric Songer (erikanddebbie@att.net
  2. Camp Emerald Bay (Catalina, CA) June 16-23;  Merit Badge Camp (including SCUBA options!) (all scouts eligible) - Approx. $1,400 total cost.   3. Camp Delatour  (Larimer, CO): July 8-14; Merit Badge Camp (all scouts eligible) - Approx. $1,000 total cost. Please sign up by March 15. Leader -   Roger Gregory (rgregory@pmrg.com)
  4. Camp Morrison, ( McCall, Idaho): July 21-28; Merit Badge Camp (all scouts eligible) - Approx. $1,400 total cost including airfare. Troop 55 will participate in white water rafting before the start of official camp. Please sign up by March 15.   5. Art Loeb Trail, Camp Daniel Boone ( This camp has  one more spot and then we will create a wait list) (Canton, NC): June 9-16;  (Ages 13   eligible) - Approx. $1,200 total cost. Note: Troop 55 considers this program to be a mid-adventure program, good for boys beyond Merit Badge camps but prior to High Adventure treks.   6. Rugged Explorers, Camp Emerald Bay (Catalina, CA) June 16-23;  High Adventure (Age 14 )  - Approx. $1,400 total cost. Note: Troop 55 considers this program to be a mid-adventure program, good for boys beyond Merit Badge camps but prior to High Adventure treks. Please sign up by March 15.   7. Chimayo Walkabout, (Chimayo, NM): June 16-24; (Age 12 by start of Trek)  - Approx. $850 total cost including airfare. Gorham Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico near Santa Fe, approximately 100 miles southwest of the Philmont Scout Ranch. The program is a introductory  backpacking programs for younger Scouts and adults interested in gaining the essential advanced outdoor skills needed to participate and lead the Troop’s progressively challenging high adventure backpacking program.   8. Pecos Wilderness Trek, (Gorham, NM): June 16-24; (Age 13 or 8th grade by start of Trek)  - Approx. $850 total cost including airfare. This is a 5 day trek in the Pecos Wilderness, a frequent location for Troop 55  treks of about 45 to 55 miles, high in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Past treks have included a number that cross the entire wilderness, camping at Truchas and East Pecos Baldy Lakes, and crossing the 12,500’ Santa Barbara pass and the 11,700’ Trail Rider’s Wall, Approx. $850 total cost including airfare.  NYLT strongly preferred.   11. Israel: July 18-26;  (Star & age 15 , hiking and camping) - Approx. $2,650 total cost. The group will hike and tour various historical sites and visit with Israeli scouts.  While the planned activities are mid-level in difficulty, the international nature of this trip requires maturity and judgment.  A personal interview, training and passport required..   12. Chile (Santiago- Andes/ Chile- Patagonia Winter Backpacking Trek) July 17 - 31; (First Class and 14 , interview required) - This is a return trip to Santiago, Chile, continuing on to Chilean Patagonia, including Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales and a winter backpacking trek on the W-route in the Torres del Paine National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Trip is designed to qualify as a World Organization of Scouting Movement Messengers of Peace (MoP) project, including service projects Approx. $2,650 total cost. Passport required.
